I'll get the serious message bit out of the way first in case you do a Ken Clarke and fall asleep by the end of this blog. We'll be taking SIPP applications right up to 5 April and the full team will be working hard at this end, but ideally we'd like to aim for contribution cheques to be cleared by Friday 1st April please, to avoid any last minute hiccups.

I took in Cheltenham last week, for the first time in a few years, and now wise after the event I can assess my losses and see the error of my ways. I put in place what I thought was a sensible strategy and after 3 races had established a healthy profit margin. And that's where it all went wrong: 1) I thought I had cracked it when I had only just started 2) so smug was I that the system worked that I didn't adapt it as the afternoon wore on and 3) the Guinness didn't help.

The moral of the story is to stick to the day job and fortunately that's a lot more successful. We've cracked the 1,000 barrier for SIPP numbers and this month is already our best to date and, even at this busy time of year, people are taking the time to say good things about us. You may have noticed that some SIPP providers have been getting negative press recently, but here's what an adviser said about us earlier this week:
